A quiet idea,
years in the making.
A Life in HospitalityThe Early Years
My understanding of human connection didn't start in tech, it started in high-stakes kitchens. A culinary degree from the New England Culinary Institute put me on the line at The Park Lane Hotel in 2012, one of 44 chefs, every single one of us wanting to be there. Sixteen-hour days. We sweat through service together, went dancing after our shifts, and were back on the line the next morning like nothing had happened. That's where I learned what real, unfiltered community actually feels like.

The Paradox of Connection2024
That foundation makes the modern world feel jarring. We have more ways to stay in touch than ever, and somehow we barely see our friends. A few years ago I went through the most isolating stretch of my life, and I noticed something: the technology built to keep us close was quietly pulling us apart. I wanted the warmth of those kitchen years, but built for a digital world. So I started àlex, not as a tech app, but as a way to help people actually show up for the friends they already have.
Scouting the Sanctuary2025 to 2026
Building the Concierge Hub for the app meant stepping away from the screen and back onto the streets of London. I spent months quietly scouting the city, looking for independent coffee kiosks, canal-side restaurants, hidden galleries, and sensory wellness spaces. I wasn't looking for the most viral spots; I was looking for spaces that felt like a breath out. Today, we are actively partnering with 50 of London's finest independent spaces to act as physical sanctuaries for our users.
The LaunchNow
Today, àlex is no longer just a quiet idea. Backed by the NatWest Founders programme, we are deep in active development: refining the app with our founding circle, finalizing our Founding Partner cohort of London businesses, and testing the algorithms that hold the experience together. We are taking the time it needs, and we will open the doors when the sanctuary is genuinely ready.
A Small, Founding Circle
A handful of people are in so far. We are not chasing scale. àlex is for the people you already love, not a growth chart.
